About the College
The College started functioning in the year 1968-69. It is named after the world-renowned Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar, It is very dose to the temple of Lord Shiva at Papanasam, Tirunelveli district on the banks of river Thamirabarani in Sylvan surroundings contributed by the Podhigai which is supposed to be the seat of St. Agasthiyar, who nurtured Tamil language in all its varied excellence thousands of years ago.
The colege is under the benign management of Kundrakudi Tiruvannamalai Adheenam Trust headed by His Holiness Srimath Ponnambala Adigalar, it is now a first grade college offering B.Sc. Mathematics, B.Sc. Chemistry, BA. History, BA Tamil M.Com. and B.Com. programmes. B.Com, B.Sc. (Computer Science, BA(English), MA(English and M.Sc. (Mathematics) are under self-financing programmes. Also, the college has Research Centre in Commerce. Under the inspiring leadership, able guidance and care of (late) His Holiness Kundrakudi Adigalar, Founder and Former Secretary, the college achieved an all round development. The college is accredited with ++ grade by NAAC in the year 2017.
About the Department
The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1979-1980 with B.Sc. Mathematics and then M.Sc. Mathematics from the academic year 2015-2016. The Department is proud of its many University Rarik holders and also of more than 85% of girl students. The Department has a c dedicated team of five staff members among whom four are Ph.D. holders. The Department staff have published many papers in National and International journals. One of the staff members is an official research guide of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli to guide students for Ph.D in Mathematics. The Department has experience in organizing national level seminars and special lectures on various fields of Mathematics.
About Prof. S. Somasundaram
Professor in Mathematics of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli Mathematical Sciences. Manonmanam Sundaranar University honored him with “The Academic Excellence Award in 2009. Professor S. Somasundaram is a Retired Prof. 5. Somasundaram is well known to the Mathematical community for bvs legendary lectures in an elementary way. He did his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkotta. He had his Ph.D. degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur under the guidance of Prof. U.B.Tewan.
Before joining Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, he was a visting scientist at IISC Bangalore, ICTP Italy and was an NBHM fellow in IMSC Chennai. He has published more than 90 research artides in various fields including Harmonic Analysis, Graph Labellings, Fixed Point Theory, Best Proximity Points and Fuzzy Analysis etc. He has guided 20 Ph.D. students and one post doctoratal fellow. He served as Head of the Mathematics Department of M.S.University during 2009-2012. He was the Co-ordinator for IQAC during 2013-2015 and the Dean-in-charge for College Development Council at M.S. University. He is one of the Resident Faculty Members of the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) supported “Mathematics Teaching and Talent Search team (MTTS) programine which trains the young students across the country to pursue higher studies in Mathematics. He received “Tamilnadu Scientist Award” by the Government of Tami Nadu in 2010 for his contribution.
Eligibility
All Faculty Members working in Regular/Self-Finance/ Temporary/ Ad Hoc Position in indian institutions/colleges eligible to attend. Na receving order or No Objection Certificate (NOC) is required to participate. Few seats reserved for selective research scholars working in Analysis.
Only 50 participants are permitted to attend the FDP. The last date for the Registration is fixed as 31.07.2024. However, the
Registration will get dosed automatically, if we received required number of applications.
